The House Health Committee and the Senate Health Committee each held a public hearing on Wednesday to listen to proponents and opponents of the bills. At the hearing, there were 2-3 proponents of the bill that stood up to speak at the public hearing and 6-7 different professions along with Nurse Practitioners who professionals spoke in opposition of the bill.
NP Professionals Eileen Meyer, DNP, CRNP, Robin Lawson, DNP, CRNP, Salisia Valentine, CRNP, and Terry Watkins, CRNP each delivered a powerful message to the legislators expressing their concerns about duplicate regulation and practicing issues.
Working Together!!!! We want to thank all the nurse practitioners who alerted their legislator(s) and to those on the House and Senate Health Committee Members. Again, thank you! It is truly a team effort.
There are about 4 days left in this year’s session. The senate and house health committees acknowledged the ongoing concerns from the advanced practice providers and stated there was more work to be done on this bill before bringing it a vote. NPAA’s goal is to be exempt from these bills as the other licensed healthcare providers are and we will continue to work towards providing safe and optimal health care to all Alabamians. We will continue to monitor these bills closely.
